Missouri House Bill No. 1743

The University of Missouri’s football student-athletes banded together for a cause they believed to be important and indicated if certain administrators chose not to step down, the student-athletes would not play football. Quickly, administrators resigned or indicated they would later resign. The Missouri legislature responded with House Bill No. 1743 (“Bill”). In pertinent part, the Bill states:

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any college athlete who calls, incites, supports, or participates in any strike or concerted refusal to play a scheduled game shall have his or her scholarship revoked.

Any member of a coaching staff who encourages or enables a college athlete to engage in behavior prohibited under subsection 1 of this section shall be fined by his or her institution of employment.
